Yosui-en(cultivated green garden)was built in 1818 by Harutomi Tokugawa,a feudal lord of Wakayama Prefecture(which was called kishu in olden times). It was built as his rest place for tea ceremony and the jissai-an is widely known as the oldest tea house in Wakayama Prefecture. There are many old pine trees in the 33000㎡ garden. At the center there is a 10000㎡ pond filled with sea water, so the water level changes with the tides. There are many grey mullet in the pond and they often can be jumping up from the water. A guardian deity is enshrined on the island in the middle of the pond. Two bridges span the pond, taikobashi and Mitsuhashi. The pond is shaped like the West Lake in China. The artistic design of Yosui-en is such that the characteristic straight asts beautifully with the complicated curved line of the surrounding Jap-anese garden. We hope that you enjoy your visit to Yosui-en. The entry fee for “Yosui-en” is :Adults are 600 yen, children are 300 yen (elementary school students), and children under elementary school age are free.parking is free for visitors
