Yosuitei

The teahouse “Yosui-tei” is a valuable building that has been engraved in 1821 on the tiles for more than 200 years. It is a building with a total floor area of 94 tsubo and 19 rooms, and is a rare building in Japan that remains in its old state on the old site as a villa building used by the feudal lord. In addition, not only the part used by His Highness, but also the surrounding area is almost completely preserved. Due to deterioration, it was completely dismantled and repaired from Heisei 3 to Heisei 6 for the preservation of cultural properties under the jurisdiction of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and it retains the appearance of the past.

Tokugawa harutomi, the tenth lord of the Kishu Tokugawa family, visited and sat in the tatami room, which is the highest point from the entire building, and each room is lowered one step toward the following offerings. It is the best place to admire the garden from inside the building.

hidari naname nobori o rouka(Corridor diagonally up to the left)

Guests come to the park from the main gate in a palanquin, rest in the “otsugizashiki” of the Yosuitei, and then be guided to the “Throne Room” where His Highness resides, but the corridor connecting the “otsugizashiki” and the “Throne Room” is the “Left Diagonal Climbing Corridor”. This corridor is covered with tatami mats, and it has a peculiar structure that swings diagonally upwards to the left, and for this reason, all tatami mats and shoji are diamond-shaped. It is the only such structure in Japan.

Second tatami table tea room “Jitsuan”

Adjacent to the west of the “Throne Room” is the oldest 2nd tatami table tea room in Wakayama Prefecture. As a result of the dismantling and repair, it is said that the tea room that had been in another place for a long time may have been moved to Yosuien, and it is a place that must be studied in the future. It is a precious tea room that harutomi used to make tea.
